Our trip to the local Waddesdon Manor
Not far from Hemel Hempstead is Waddesdon Manor. It was built in the 1800's after the style of a French mansion of the 1700s. This is why it looks so different to many other UK manor houses. The owner was an avid collector of furniture, silverware, china & porcilen from the 1700's and amassed a huge collection. We enjoyed the first 30 rooms of the house, but started getting tired by the end of the 40 odd rooms. Everything was so well preserved including a couple of facinating music boxes. One was about 6' high with an ornate elephant. When wound the trunk and ears would move along with many other interesting features.
