Visiting Elgin Cathedral, looking for James Urquhart
Our first stop on our journey looking for the Urquhart relatives was Elgin cathedral. The Cathedral was built in the 1224 and was in use as a cathedral through to 1711 when the central tower collapsed on Easter Sunday. We knew a James Urquhart was buried here somewhere, but weren't sure if it was the one that was related. It took about 30 minutes to find his grave, and we all felt that he wasn't the right one.
Even so it was amazing to walk through the ruins of this once grand cathedral, and look at the architecture and how old some of the graves were. Then it was onto our next stop, Rathen near Fraserbourgh.
