The White Cliffs of Dover
We arrived first at Samphire Hoe to get close to the water. Instead of beach, we found a sea wall extending in both directions. The boys were really excited to see the English Channel, the first ocean we have seen since arriving in England. Samphire Hoe is 89 acres of nature reserve that was created at the time that the Channel Tunnel was built. It is made from all the dirt & chalk which was dug out of the tunnel. It now protects the cliffs from erosion. The Channel Tunnel was right underneath our feet.
On the way to the cliff walks, Owen & Jacob checked out some old ruins sitting next to a car park.
Dusk was already upon us by the time we started the cliff walk so we didn't go the whole way. However as you can see, we temporarily satisfied our curiosity about this spectacular land form. We plan on going back in summer time for a proper look around the whole area.
