Visiting the Berkhamsted Castle ruins: Part 1
Our very first castle visit in England was to the ruins of Berkhamsted Castle. With a history in mind it was amazing to see many of the land formations still as they were in the time of William the Conqueror's time. We were impressed by the two earthwork buttresses, one of which formed the moat and the other a deep ditch and earth wall. While it was a formidable fortress it was eventually plundered in the 16th Century by the Black Prince for its stone.
